Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie recognized Cameron Jones, a native of Savanna, Illinois, on the House Floor this week after his selection by NASA for the 2025 astronaut candidate class. Jones, who serves as a Major in the U.S. Air Force, was chosen from more than 8,000 applicants and has accumulated over 1,600 flight hours across more than 30 types of aircraft.

Jones began his training last month as one of NASA’s ten new astronaut candidates. He is preparing for potential future missions to the International Space Station, as well as to the Moon and Mars.

To mark this achievement, McCombie filed House Resolution HR498 and addressed it during a legislative session. “To congratulate him, Leader McCombie filed a House Resolution, HR498, which she spoke on during legislative session.”

McCombie has represented Illinois’ 89th House District since her election in 2023. She succeeded Andrew Chesney and is a member of the Republican Party.
