City of Sterling Mayor & Council met April 26.

Here is the minutes as provided by the council:

Mayor Charles “Skip” Lee called a special meeting of the Sterling City Council to order at

6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Roll call. Present: Aldermen Bob Conklin,

Retha Elston, Joe Martin, John Stauter, and Christine Wilen. Absent: Alderman Chris

Schuchard.

Also present were City Attorney Tim Zollinger, City Manager Scott Shumard, Police Lt.

Jeff Mohr, and City Clerk Marie Rombouts.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

There were no Communications from Visitors.

Alderman Stauter made a motion to approve Ordinance #2017-04-10 Authorizing

Imposition of an Increase in the Voter Approved Non-Home Rule Municipal

Retailers Occupation Tax and Non-Home Rule Municipal Service Occupation

Tax to the Rate of 1%; seconded by Alderman Elston. Voting: Ayes – Aldermen

Conklin, Elston, Martin, Stauter, and Wilen. Nayes – None. Motion carried.

Manager Shumard reported that Bob Vale would be here on May 5 to discuss the

bonding process and possibilities. Sales tax revenue should begin in October. Over the

winter, bids may be prepared for work to start next spring.

Alderman Wilen reported the tree on Seventh Avenue was removed and neighbors were

relieved.

Alderman Conklin reported that Public Works crews were beginning work in the 1100

block of Avenue C.

Alderman Elston asked if photos could be taken and displayed on the Facebook page to

generate positive images of what streets are being improved.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 638 pm.
