Whiteside County Airport attorney Dave Murray resigned, the Edgar County Watchdogs (ECW) recently reported.
"Everything comes to an end," Murray said after tendering his resignation. "It's time, and there's too much going on."
Murray's resignation was the third from the airport organization and board. The ECW was investigating the board since it came to ECW co-founders Jim Kraft's and Kirk Allen's attention that the board had hired its own attorney. The watchdog group contended that the airport board did not have the authority to hire outside legal counsel; the board had usurped the state's attorney's duty to represent the airport.
The initial story broke in the Sauk Valley News. The outlet reported on June 16 that current President David Koster said the board could contract for professional services under statute 620 ILCS. Murray had represented the airport for more than 50 years.
Kraft and Allen attended an airport board meeting on April 13 during which board Chairman Stan Domack Jr. responded to a citizen's question regarding the board's actions in hiring a local contractor instead of putting a job out for bid as the law requires, saying, "Rules and regulations are a bunch of crap.”
Domack and board member John Zaeske resigned on April 18 and 24, respectively. Domack stated that he was resigning from the board after 30 years due to his health and the recent passing of his wife.
"It was time, and I'm old enough," Domack said. "It's time to take care of myself."
