Gov. Bruce Rauner has asked the Small Business Administration (SBA) to step in to help people and businesses in Stephenson County and its neighboring counties that were affected by recent flooding, according to a press release.
“Stephenson County was particularly hard hit by the July floods, and we want to do everything possible to help them fully recover,” Rauner said in the release. “If approved, the SBA assistance could be a tremendous help to many people who are working to repair or replace their homes or businesses.”
Assistance from the SBA would come in the form of low-interest, long-term loans and be available to residents of Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll, Ogle and Winnebago counties.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and the SBA visited the area in late August to assess the damage done to local structures. According to the press release, that assessment found that 112 residences sustained major damages, as did six businesses and one non-profit entity. All of them had uninsured losses.
