A regional show store chain Shoe Sensation is sponsoring its Socks for Troops drive until Christmas Eve in an effort to help active duty military members and local veterans, the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce said on its website.
“Socks are something we take for granted as most of us have nice clean socks every day to put on,” Angela Smith, area director and second-time participant of Socks for Troops, said in the posting. “The holidays are quickly approaching and it’s important for us to think about the thousands of U.S. military men and women deployed overseas in harsh, war ravaged places, and most likely spending the holidays away from their family.”
The shoe store allows customers to either bring in new socks to be donated at local stores or gives them a 20 percent discount off of military-approved socks they can buy in the store to be donated, the posting said.

“I am honored to be part of a company that gives back to the community,” Smith said in the posting.
Interested donors can visit shoesensation.com and click on store locator in order to find a store closest to them, according to the website.
