Report: Sterling spent $9,086 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Sterling Community Unit School District 5 is down 1 percent from five years ago, according to a NW Illinois News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Whiteside County school district spent $9,171 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $9,086 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 3449 to 3371.

Sterling's spending in 2016-17 was 30 percent lower than the state average of $12,973.
