City of Dixon issued the following announcement on Oct. 4.
Every year the 8th graders from local schools come to participate in Government Day. This past Monday (10/01/2018) 19 students from Reagan Middle School and 4 students from St. Mary's took the opportunity to learn more about Dixon's form of government and the inner workings of the city.
First, the students were able to learn about our Public Works departments by visiting each of the division's main locations (Wastewater Facility, Street Department Garage, Public Property Garage, and Water Department Lab). They learn about our facilities and about the equipment needed to keep our city running.
The students were then taken on a tour of the Public Safety Building. They learned about the police and fire departments and were given a show and tell about different equipment that each department uses.
The students came back for the council meeting and were able to participate in the city council meeting.
