Analysis: Sterling administrators rank 564th in state for average pay

Administrators in Sterling Community Unit School District 5 earn an average of $92,100 per year, ranking 564th out of 864 districts in the state, according to a NW Illinois News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2018 average is 8% higher than in 2014 and 10.2% higher than in 2009. District administrators make 14.1% less than the state average of $107,279.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Whiteside County school district enrolled 3407 students in 2017-18. There is an average of 243 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 181 to 1.
