City of Galena Historic Preservation Commission met April 4.

CALL TO ORDER 

Chairman Craig Brown called the meeting of the Galena Historic Preservation Commission to order at 6:30 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2019.

ROLL CALL & DECLARATION OF QUORUM

Upon roll call, the following members were present:

Craig Brown Present

Carl Johnson Present

Jack Dennerlein Present

Katie Wienen Present

William Gehrts Present

Craig Albaugh Present

Matt Carroll Present

A quorum was declared.

Public Comments: None,

Approval of minutes March 7, 2019:

MOTION: Albaugh moved, seconded by Johnson to approve the minutes with the correction of Chris Allendorf be removed and replace with Matt Carroll in the roll call.

Discussion of the motion: None.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

None.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

19HPC-0030: 213-217 S MAIN STREET. Discussion and possible action on a request by Adam Johnson applicant Raymond owner, to replace the existing steel tube and chain link fence railing with new metal fence / railing with new fenced enclosure for electrical power installation and trash containers.

Adam Johnson stated that:

• A request is being made to add a solid panel fence around dumpster area. On the other three sides add a forty-two-inch (42") wood fence. There will be three electric transformers that will be about four inches (4") taller than the fence which will be constructed using the proposed smooth LP Smart Side materials. There will be new metal fence/railing. Johnson passed around a book that had pictures of the Jam Systems railing.

The HPC Board suggested:

• The Bench Street side of the trash enclosure must be constructed with wood.

MOTION: Albaugh moved, seconded by Wienen to approve the metal Jam Systems railing, the fence around the three sides may be constructed using the proposed smooth LP Smart Side materials. The enclosure facing Bench Street must be made of wood,

NEW BUSINESS

19HPC-031: 517 FOURTH STREET. 

Discussion and possible action by Cuck Horton applicant, and Richard and Liz Bogess owners, to build a new front porch, replace the roof with asphalt shingles, move the location of the front door, re-side the house with wood grain 6-6.5 inch reveal LP smart side, and install new prairie grid style aluminum clad windows.

Chuck Horton stated:

• That he is requesting to build a new front porch, replace the existing roofing with asphalt shingles, move the front door, reside the house with wood grain 6-inch reveal LP smart side, and install new prairie style grid windows.

The HPC suggested:

. The siding must be smooth Hardi Plank fiber board cement based.

MOTION: Albaugh moved, seconded by Carroll to approve the new porch, change the roof to all asphalt shingles, siding to be used should be Hardi Plank reveal LP Smart Side up to five inches (5").
