Ashton Franklin Center Community Unit School District #275 Board of Education met Monday, May 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The AFC Board of Education met in regular session on May 20, 2019. The meeting was brought to order by President, Chad Murphy at 7:00pm in the JHHS Library. Members present were: Amy, Mark, Jenny, Jackie, Tim, Chad & Tiffany. Admin present: Mr. Zick, Mrs. Dillon, Mrs. Warrenfeltz.

Motion was made by Amy, seconded by Mark to accept Consent Agenda items A-J as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Liaison Reports

AFC Ed Foundation: Chad & Mr. Zick now represent the school district.

Technology: Mr. Gleissner collecting seniors’ chrome books & getting them cleared, disconnecting tech services from science rooms for renovation.

FFA Alumni: Touch a Tractor set for September 13 at ES.

FFA Report: FFA Member Bret Buhrow, presented review of past and upcoming activities, workshops, contests and conferences. Officers have been elected. Garage sale to be held at old MS on June 8 & 9 with profits going to FFA.

Insurance: Dental insurance has been renewed at same cost as last year.

PTC: Officers for next school year have been elected, 2 scholarships awarded to AFC seniors, new fall fundraiser in the works, planning for teacher appreciation week, & working on next year’s budget.

Athletic Boosters: Fall fundraiser to take place on August 24 for those 21 & older, looking at replacing windows in the crow’s nest at football field.

Recognition of Registered Visitors - None

Superintendent’s Report

Financial, WACC and OCEC: As submitted.

Summer Employment: A custodial staff of 6 persons has been selected. General Updates: Thank you letter from Mr. Braker was shared with the Board.

Principals’ Reports – As submitted.

New Business

Motion made by Amy, seconded by Jackie to approve the Prevailing Wage Resolution and Certificate as presented. Motion carried by 6-1 roll call vote. Tim voted “no”.

Motion made by Amy, seconded by Jenny to approve the District Adoption of Jr. Tackle Football Program as presented. Motion carried by 6-1 roll call vote. Mark voted “no”.

Motion made by Tim, seconded by Jackie to approve the Amended Budget for 2018-2019 School Year as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion made by Tim, seconded by Jenny to Conduct a Public Hearing on the FY 2019 Amended Budget on June 17, 2019 at 6:45 P.M. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion made by Tim, seconded by Jackie to approve the FFA Livestock Lab as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion made by Mark, seconded by Tim to approve the First Reading of Board Policy revisions as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion made by Amy, seconded by Mark to approve the Consolidated District Plan as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion made by Amy, seconded by Mark to accept the resignation of Jakki Estock as 4th Grade Teacher, and approve the hiring as presented of the following individuals:

Denise Deter, 5th-12th Music Teacher

Kathy Mckeel, K-4th Music Teacher

Austin Donoho, Jr./Sr. HS Physical Education Teacher

Melanie Asbury, Christine Wolf, & Brad Winterland, Summer Custodians Tina Strasma, Summer Chana Bus Driver

Dan Bouton, Summer Lawn Maintenance

Kayla VanBuren, Head Varsity Volleyball Coach

Scott Stevens, Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach

Angie Waters, HS Football & Basketball Cheer Coach

Chris Jahn, Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach

Chris Hager, Head Varsity Wrestling Coach

Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion was made by Tim, seconded by Mark to adjourn the meeting at 8:17pm.
