Jo Daviess County Social & Environmental Committee met May 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

PRESENT:

A quorum was established.

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: None

OTHERS PRESENT: Kathy Gable, and Sandra Schleicher. There were six students present from River Ridge High School.

1. Minutes Approval

a) Minutes from the April 18, 2019 Social & Environmental Committee meeting – Bob Heuerman made a motion to approve the minutes from the April 18, 2018 Social & Environmental Committee meeting. Seconded by Bill Bingham and motion carried.

2. Citizens’ Comments: Chairman Don Hill welcomed the students from River Ridge High School.

3. Unfinished Business

a) FY2017/FY2018 Strategic Goals & Plans – The committee reviewed their goals and plans.

b) Discussion and review of the current Animal Control Ordinance (Chapter 5 – Section 5) and areas that need to be reviewed and/or amended – Sandra Schleicher reported that she is not currently working on this and it was before her tine. She does not know where this is headed. This item will be removed from future agendas for now.

c) Discussion regarding the Jo Daviess County Health Department - The Board of Health is looking for two Physicians and one Dentist. They currently have five members, they need nine.

5. Staff Reports

a) Jo Daviess County PCOM – Trina Orr, Jo Daviess County Program Compliance Oversight Monitor (PCOM, was not in attendance.

b) Jo Daviess County Transit – Kathy Gable, Jo Daviess County Transit Director, talked about Carroll County. Transit is getting new tablets this week.

c) Public Health – Sandra Schleicher, Interim Jo Daviess County Public Health Administrator, they have increased the fund for Vaccination Education by $7,000.00. Dr. Losey will stay on for STD testing. A question was brought up about getting the word out to the public on exactly what the Health Department does. Sandra Schleicher said she can work on the hand out or something for bulletin boards in establishments. The committee agreed we could help distribute materials once established.

d) Mental Health Board – Elaine Townsend, 708 Mental Health Board Chairperson, was not in attendance.

e) Other Boards – Several committee members thanked the River Ridge students for coming to the meeting.

6. Citizens’ Comments: None.

7. Board Member Concerns: Hendrica Regez commented that there was a lack of diversity at the recent retreat age, and sex. Regez also stated we need the public to be educated on what the Health Department does.

Motion to adjourn was made at 6:58 p.m. by Bill Bingham, seconded by Hendrica Regez and motion passed.
