Orangeville Community Unit School District 203 Board of Education met June 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Budget Amendment Review was declared open at 7:03 p.m. by Vice-President Jay Doyle. Members present were, Jay Doyle, Brian Jordan, Deanna Kraft, Brian Statdfield and Mary Velcich. President Amy Baker was absent. Others in attendance were Superintendent Dr. Douglas DeSchepper and Jr./Sr. High Principal Andrew Janecke. (Information Note: Others may have been in attendance but did not sign the sign-in sheet.)

Superintendent Dr. DeSchepper explained why an amendment needed to be done to the budget.

Discussion followed.

There were no public comments.

Motion by Statdfield, seconded by Jordan to adjourn at 7:05 from Budget Amendment Review. Ayes: 5. Nays: 0. Absent: 1. The motion carried.

PUBLIC HEARING

ORANGEVILLE COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT #203 STEPHENSON COUNTY, ILLINOIS HELD IN THE ORANGEVILLE ELEMENTARY TEACHER WORKROOM AT 7:00 P.M. 310 SOUTH EAST STREET, ORANGEVILLE, IL MONDAY, JUNE 10, 2019

The Public Hearing was declared open at 7:06 p.m. by Vice-President Jay Doyle. Members present were, Jay Doyle, Brian Jordan, Deanna Kraft, Brian Statdfield and Mary Velcich. President Amy Baker was absent. Others in attendance were Superintendent Dr. Douglas DeSchepper and Jr./Sr. High Principal Andrew Janecke. (Information Note: Others may have been in attendance but did not sign the sign-in sheet.)

Concerning the intent of the Board of Education to issue $700,000 working cash fund bonds to increase the working cash fund of the District.

Motion by Doyle, seconded by Statdfield to adjourn at 7:07 from Public Hearing. Ayes: 5. Nays: 0.

Absent: 1. The motion carried.

REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION ORANGEVILLE COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT #203 STEPHENSON COUNTY, ILLINOIS HELD IN THE ORANGEVILLE ELEMENTARY TEACHER WORKROOM AT 7:10 P.M. 310 SOUTH EAST STREET, ORANGEVILLE, IL

Vice-President Jay Doyle called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. and all present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Members present were Jay Doyle, Brian Jordan, Deanna Kraft, Brian Statdfield and Mary Velcich. President Amy Baker was absent. Others in attendance were Superintendent Dr. Douglas DeSchepper, Jr./Sr. High Principal Andrew Janecke, Willi Guy, Lon Scheuerell, Tim King, Cathy Eberle and Chris Moore. (Information Note: Others may have been in attendance but did not sign the sign-in sheet.)

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Cathy Eberle reported on behalf of the Orangeville Education Foundation. The OEF met June 4th. New business included the Joleen Marcum Memorial Golf Outing on July 20th. RC Foods will provide the brats. On July 26th & August 2nd they will be at the Lena Maid Meats brat stand from 11:00 – 1:00. Next meeting is July 16th.

No PTO update.

CONSENT AGENDA:

Motion by Velcich, seconded by Jordan to approve Consent Agenda as presented. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield and Velcich. Nays: None. Absent: Baker. The motion carried.

PAYMENT OF BILLS:

Motion by Statdfield, seconded by Jordan to approve Payment of Bills as presented. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield and Velcich. Nays: None. Absent: Baker. The motion carried.

ENCOURAGING WORDS:

Mr. Janecke commended the softball team for making it to Super Sectionals. There was great community support.

Mr. Janecke recognized the students who moved high school items on the last day of school. 400 man hours by 120 kids moved everything in one day. The teachers were surprised and appreciative.

Dr. DeSchepper stated he was impressed with the students and paraprofessionals who helped with movie day.

President Amy Baker arrived at 7:24 p.m.

OLD BUSINESS:

Mr. Moore presented credit hour averages for approximately three years back and comparisons of local districts.

Motion by Velcich, seconded by Doyle to approve Second Reading of proposed changes to the 6-12 handbook. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Statdfield to approve the 2018-2019 Amended Budget. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Mr. Guy presented results from the Activities Review Committee. Aquin agreed to Orangeville’s policies and handbook. Also, fees, academic standards, games, and awards to be held at Orangeville.

Motion by Velcich, seconded by Doyle to approve HS Softball Coop with Aquin, under a 2-year contract. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Doyle, seconded by Statdfield to approve Recommendations from Board Project Committee as presented. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield, Velcich and Baker. Nays: None. Absent: None. The motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Baker to approve 1st reading of proposed changes to the Elementary handbook. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Doyle, seconded by Velcich to approve a Motion to Transfer of 2018-2019 Interest from the Bond & Interest Fund to the Education Fund. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield, Velcich and Baker. Nays: None. Absent: None. The motion carried.

Motion by Velcich, seconded by Statdfield to approve Dissemination of Yamaha Piano as requested per letter. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield, Velcich and Baker. Nays: None. Absent: None. The motion carried.

Motion by Doyle, seconded by Jordan to approve Dissemination of three welders as requested per letter. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield, Velcich and Baker. Nays: None. Absent: None. The motion carried.

Motion by Doyle, seconded by Baker to approve Dissemination of items from Elementary and 6-12 Building for Auction as designated per administration. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Velcich, seconded by Doyle to approve Dissemination of Library Books requested per letter. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

Motion by Statdfield, seconded by Doyle to convene into executive session at 8:02 p.m. for the purposes as outlined in Section 5 ILCS 120/2 of the Open Meetings Act. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield, Velcich and Baker. Nays: None. Absent: None. The motion carried.

A 10 minute break was taken.

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Velcich to re-convene from executive session at 9:26 p.m. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Kraft, seconded by Statdfield to accept letter of Resignation from Josef Edler. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Statdfield, seconded by Baker to accept letter of Resignation from Wade Zuberbuhler. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Jordan, seconded by Kraft to accept letter of Resignation from Kathryn Sheriff. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Velcich, seconded by Jordan to Hire Austin Guy as Summer Custodian @ $10.00/hour. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield, Velcich and Baker. Nays: None. Absent: None. The motion carried.

Motion by Kraft, seconded by Statdfield to approve Superintendent’s recommendation to terminate employment of Thomas Aeling, effective immediately. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.

Motion by Baker, seconded by Kraft to Approve Speech Program Proposal as presented. Upon roll being called the following voted Aye: Doyle, Jordan, Kraft, Statdfield, Velcich and Baker. Nays: None. Absent: None. The motion carried.

Motion by Statdfield, seconded by Doyle to Approve Discipline as presented. Ayes: 6. Nays: 0. Absent: 0. The motion carried.
