Creston Community Consolidated School District 161 Board of Education met July 22.

Call to Order and Roll Call

President Miriah Ranken called the meeting to order and on roll call, the following members were:

Physically Present:

Miriah Ranken, President

Tonya Sarver, Secretary

Mark Heller, Vice President

Jonathan Jones, Board Member

Daniel Graber, Board Member

Paul Williams, Board Member

Joanie Novak, Board Member

Present By Other Means: None

Absent: None

Also present were Superintendent Curt Rheingans, Director of Education, Nicole Zellmer, and Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, Karen Collins.

Pledge of Allegiance

President Miriah Ranken led the Board of Education and the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Presentations

a. Introduction of New Teachers – Mr. Rheingans introduced the new staff.

b. School Improvement Goals – Mrs. Zellmer gave a presentation on School Improvement Goals for the upcoming school year.

Superintendent’s Report

a. Facility Update – Mr. Rheingans discussed with the Board the plans to replace the windows.

b. Audit Update – Mr. Rheingans updated the Board on our audit.

c. Budget Update – Mr. Rheingans gave the Board a Budget Update.

d. Teacher Institute Schedule – Mr. Rheingans shared with the Board the schedule for the Teacher Institutes for the upcoming school year.

e. Unpack Your Backpack Night – Mr. Rheingans explained to the Board we will have Unpack Your Backpack Night on August 13, 2019.

Consent Agenda Action Items

a. Approval of Minutes: Open Session Regular Meeting of June 24, 2019

b. Approval of June 2019 Treasurer’s Report

c. Approval of Bills for Payment

d. Personnel Report

1. Action to Approve the Hire of Amanda Bengford-Breneisen, Kindergarten Teacher, with a Starting Salary of $37,668 for the 2019-2020 School Year.

2. Action to Approve the Hire of Bridgit Messenger, Fifth Grade Teacher, with a Starting Salary of $36,117 for the 2019-2020 School Year.

3. Approve the Hire of Shannon Wilczek, Seventh Grade Teacher, with a Starting Salary of $37,862 for the 2019-2020 School Year.

Mrs. Sarver made a motion, seconded by Mr. Heller, that the consent agenda be approved as presented.

a. Action to Authorize the Destruction of the Verbatim Audio Recordings of the Closed Session Board Meetings Held on June 27, 2016, July 25, 2016, August 22, 2016, September 26, 2016, October 24, 2016, November 21, 2016, and December 19, 2016.

Mrs. Sarver made a motion, seconded by Mr. Jones, that the Board of Education authorize the destruction of the Verbatim Audio Recordings of the Closed Session Board Meetings Held on June 27, 2016, July 25, 2016, August 22, 2016, September 26, 2016, October 24, 2016, November 21, 2016, and December 19, 2016.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be August 26, 2019.

Adjourn to Closed Session

Mrs. Sarver made a motion, seconded by Mr. Jones, that the Board of Education enter closed session to review closed session minutes; discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of public body; litigation; collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives; or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees; student disciplinary cases; the selection of a person to fill public office; and security procedures.
