NEW BUSINESS:
4. 19-1018 Discussion and Possible Action on Proceeding with Public Safety Improvement Study / Mayor VanOstrand, City Manager Herrig
Joining was Mike Ruden and Tom Lange.
Floor plan was given with 2 options. Option A does not address the needs of the fire department but Option B does. Note at this time Fire Department had not reviewed plans.
Utilizing the property currently owned by the city could add $700,000 to the cost but if additional property is purchased site preparation could be reduced to $190,000.
Expanding Fire Station as it stands. Not able to lengthen because of lack of available space between the street and bluff behind. Would be able to expand by taking police station. But might need police station for a water treatment building. Would cost additional if water treatment building is built in vacant lots because of getting lines to the new building. Water treatment building would be better where the police station is now.
Another site offered before meeting was the round school if referendum passes to have schools together, Made appointment to look at site for Friday. Things looking at would be are buildings usable, able to get out in a timely manner, flooding of Wisconsin Ave, getting out on game nights/activities, road access and for ISO rating will it still be in 1.5 miles from all roads.
Things with the school land would be would have to test ground as we did with lots. Would have to wait till new school was built.
Other suggestion was the land across from the round school but things there would be road access from DOT, visibility of getting in and out on Wisconsin Ave (curves) and zoning, Reason looking at lots was city already owns.
Alderperson Stelpflug thinks we should look at other places.
