Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has successfully advanced legislation aimed at increasing opportunities for students to engage in work-based learning experiences. The proposed measure, House Bill 2802, seeks to amend the school code to facilitate student participation in supervised career development experiences. These programs may include involvement in career and technical education student organizations, FFA associations, and 4-H programs through organized competitions, exhibitions, or conferences.

McCombie expressed her enthusiasm for the bill's potential impact on students' futures. "I am proud of the opportunity this legislation creates for young students to be exposed to a variety of careers," she stated. "That exposure can help students learn about alternative pathways that can set them up for success."

The bill received unanimous bipartisan support in both legislative chambers and is now awaiting the Governor's signature.
