State House Rep. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) is hoping that voters in Illinois' 17th Congressional District are paying close attention to the actions of U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Peoria).
“Congresswoman Bustos again shows how out of touch she is with Northwest Illinois,” Chesney recently posted on Facebook. “She says ‘yes’ to Pelosi and ‘no’ to the everyday citizens in NW Illinois.”
Chesney’s comments stem from Bustos' support along with other House Democrats to pass a War Powers Resolution curtailing President Donald Trump’s ability to attack Iran without first asking Congress. The resolution comes in the wake of Trump's recent authorization of the drone attack that killed Iranian commander Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani and “requires the President to consult with Congress in every possible instance before introducing United States Armed Forces into hostilities.”

Along with fellow U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville), Bustos recently voted in favor of Trump’s impeachment. Both congresswomen represent Illinois districts easily won by Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
Still in his first term in Springfield, Chesney’s 89th House District includes all of Jo Daviess and Stephenson counties as well as parts of Ogle, Carroll, Winnebago and Whiteside counties.
