The Board Retreat Meeting of the Chadwick-Milledgeville Community Unit School District #399 Board of Education was held at the Milledgeville High School on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT: S. Baylor-Schmidt, M. Bibler, P. Eubanks, S. Kappes, B. Smith, M. Urish, and D. Wagenknecht.
ADMINISTRATORS PRESENT: Tim Schurman, Superintendent/Principal and Brian Maloy, Milledgeville School Principal.
OTHERS PRESENT: Martin Stauffer
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by the Board President, S. Baylor- Schmidt at 5:00 p.m. A motion was made by S. Kappes and seconded by M. Bibler to approve the agenda. Roll call vote showed S. Baylor-Schmidt, M. Bibler, P. Eubanks, S. Kappes, B. Smith, M. Urish, and D. Wagenknecht voting aye. No nays. Motion carried
RENEWABLE ENERGY PRESENTATION: Future Green Energy Consortium presented on renewable energy options and how the district may be able to reduce energy costs.
CLOSED SESSION
A motion was made by B. Smith and seconded by M. Bibler to convene in closed session at 6:00 p.m. in order to consider information regarding the appointment, employment, resignation, or dismissal of an employee or officer; or collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberation concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. Roll call vote showed S. Baylor-Schmidt, M. Bibler, P. Eubanks, S. Kappes, B. Smith, M. Urish, and D. Wagenknecht voting aye. No nays. Motion carried.
A motion was made by B. Smith and seconded by D. Wagenknecht to reconvene into regular open session at 6:39 p.m. Voice vote showed 7 ayes and no nays. Motion carried.
MOTIONS OUT OF CLOSED SESSION
ATHLETICS: Athletic Director Mr. Jason Wroble and Principal Brian Maloy made a presentation on future options for our football program. They discussed participation trends, the viability of continuing our 11-man football program, Coop options, and going to 8-Man football. A final decision on the future of our football program will be made by our board at the March 16, 2020 board meeting.
DISTRICT FACILITIES: Architect Terry Carbaugh representing Richard L. Johnson and Associates made a presentation on a building addition at Milledgeville. The building addition would include a new gymnasium, office space, locker rooms, and storage. No decision has been made to pursue this project.
DISCUSSION AND REVISION OF DISTRICT MISSION, VISION, CORE VALUES, AND GOALS
ANNUAL DISTRICT SURVEY RESULTS: Survey results were generally positive with 95% of the respondents indicating that Chadwick-Milledgeville provides a quality education.
REVIEW OF IASA ANNUAL SALARY STUDY: Board members compared our districts salaries, benefits, tax rates, and stipends to other districts in the Northwest Region.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by B. Smith and seconded by S. Kappes to adjourn at 9:30 p.m. Voice vote showed 7 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.
