City of Oregon City Council met Jan. 28.

Commissioner Melanie Cozzi started the pledge of allegiance.

Public Comment

Mayor Ken Williams presented Sargent Randy Cropp with a plaque for his twenty years of service working for the Police Department.

Jeremy Ciesiel Ogle County Engineer reported on the status of the Street Plan surrounding the Judicial Annex. Jefferson Street from Route 2 to 6th Street and Route 64 to Jefferson Street will be repaved and new curb. Bid letting will be in March of this year.

Mike Rock a Candidate for Ogle County States Attorney introduced himself and gave a brief description of his background.

Chris Corcoran has concerns with the Coliseum Museum of Art, Antiques, and Americana (CMAAA) taking over the Coliseum. He is going to circulate a petition asking that the City of Oregon not allow them to take over the Coliseum Building. Mayor Ken Williams announced that the special working meeting on this issue will be discussed at the Coliseum on February 5th 5:30 pm with the City Council members.

Commissioner Tim Krug moved to approve the January 28, 2020 minutes, Seconded by Commissioner Kurt Wilson.

Mayor Ken Williams moved to approve the Fees and Fines Schedule, Seconded by Commissioner Kurt Wilson.

Discussion: In the past when fees and fines changed would have to coda five the codebook and it gets expensive. By putting together a fine & fee schedule it will save on cost.

Roll Call: Cozzi, Krug, Schuster, Wilson, Williams. No Nays.

Mayor Ken Williams moved to approve the amendments to the City Code, Seconded by Commissioner Kurt Wilson.

Discussion: After the annual review still had a few sections that fees and fines needed to be taken out.

Mayor Ken Williams moved to approve the Liquor License for Northside BarbaQ, Seconded by Commissioner Kurt Wilson.

Discussion: They will have a D and D-1 Liquor License for Beer and Wine only. Currently no video gaming machines.

Roll Call: Cozzi, Krug, Schuster, Wilson, Williams. No Nays.

Commissioner Kurt Wilson moved to approve the Plan Commission recommendation variance submitted by John Robertson to build a shed closer than the required lot line setback, Seconded by Commissioner Melanie Cozzi.

Discussion: Mr. Robertson has met all the requirement for submitting the variance. He is replacing an existing shed,

Commissioner Kurt Wilson moved to approve the Raffle License for Ducks Unlimited, Seconded by Commissioner Tim Krug.

Chief DeHaan passed out ordinance violations for the past month. It seems more people are putting out furniture and not calling Moring Disposal ahead of time to pick up. Commissioner Schuster recommended that we put something in the next newsletter.

Commissioner Schuster asked each department head and Council member to come up with at least a paragraph for the City Newsletter. Will be working on it next month. We also received the recovered amount from utilities that was found during the Azavar Audit.

Mayor Williams met with the City Count Committee for the 2020 Census. We want to make sure everyone gets counted. State Funding is based on population so very important. You don’t get counted the city doesn’t receive the funding. Going to have tablets at a few locations so that people who don’t have a computer would be able to fill out the questionnaire. Locations to be determined later. A grant for $4,000.00 was received for the area so that posters, radio ads, and any other materials needed can be purchased.

Mayor Williams reminded everyone of the Special Meeting Wednesday February 5th 5:30 pm at the Coliseum to discuss Coliseum Museum of Art, Antiques, and Americana lease. This is a working session for the Council and is open to the public.
