The Dixon City Council has given its stamp of approval to the 29 local businesses applying for aid from the state's Downstate Small Business Stabilization Program.
During a special meeting on April 13 that included a public hearing, council members formally threw their support behind the plan in the first of three rounds of applications.
"All of these businesses are vital to Dixon's economy and the employment of its residents," City Manager Danny Langloss told SaukValley.com.
In all, the 29 businesses are seeking at least $430,098 in state funding as part of a plan to offset negative effects brought on by the deadly virus that has forced many businesses to bolt its doors.
Overall, the program has some $20 million in funding with grants pegged to cover 60 days of working capital for each business of up to $25,000.
The third and final round of the application process was held on April 13 at City Hall.
