The Mount Carroll District Library is closer to realizing its dream of upgrading its facilities with a substantial state grant.
The library will receive $1.15 million from the Illinois Public Library Construction Act, the Carroll County Mirror-Democrat reported. The grant comes with the condition the library raise approximately $680,000 through donations and other funding sources to pay for the $2.3 million project that will add 7,289 square feet of space to the building.
The Mirror-Democrat reported the library has grown over the years, serving nearly 8,600 patrons in 2019.
"Often, we've had to restrict the number of those who can attend because of space or accommodations," Librarian Pam Naples told the Mirror-Democrat. "An expansion would mean we could offer more programs and a wider variety of programs to meet the needs and interests of our patrons."
