Freeport FD responds to 75 fires in 2018

Freeport Fire District responded to 384 calls in 2018 - 4.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Freeport included 75 fires - 34 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 34 other fires. The fire department also responded to 14 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $926,345 in fire loss - or about $12,351 per fire.

The department also received 295 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 284 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Freeport Fire District had an annual budget of $312,125 in 2018.

The Freeport Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 47 active employees and 65 retired or inactive employees, was $470,230 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $3,645 for every fire in 2017.
