Byron FPD responds to 81 fires in 2018

Byron Fire Protection District responded to 134 calls in 2018 - 2.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Byron included 81 fires - 43 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 31 other fires.

In all, the department saw $2,218,000 in fire loss - or about $27,383 per fire.

The department also received 53 false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Byron Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $5,159,863 in 2017.

The Byron FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and nine retired or inactive employees, was $196,552 positive as of August 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,890 for every fire in 2017.
