Maxson Restaurant and Riverboat on North Illinois 2 near Oregon has had to scale back days and staff due to COVID-19 restrictions and – despite a busy summer on the Rock River – has lost as much as 80% of its usual business.
The riverboat restaurant has had to scale back hours and cancel parties amid the pandemic, according to the Ogle County News. Since reopening on June 27, business has stayed fairly slow.
“I bet we’re down 80 percent. We just have no customers or business,” manager Rich Weisner said. “It’s just sad. There’s no parties. Usually it’s rehearsal dinners on weekends. We don’t see the people that we’ve seen for years. We’re not doing buffets. The tourism situation is sad.”
Still, with some assistance through loan and grant programs, Weisner said he believes Maxson’s will weather the pandemic.
“We’ll be here for the future,” Weisner said. “I’ve been booking weddings for next year.”
