Stephenson County correctional officer injured during 'unprovoked attack' by inmate

According to the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office, a correctional officer was the victim of “an unprovoked attack” by an inmate.

The Journal Standard reported the officer was injured during the Sept. 11 attack and admitted to FHN Memorial Hospital due to the severity of the injuries he sustained. The inmate, Allen A. Castle, has been charged with aggravated battery to a correctional institution employee and his bond was set at $250,000.

Castle’s previous charges included aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated resisting a police officer, and stalking.
