Stephenson County Fair organizers started planning for the return of the fair at the end of July 2021 after this year’s event was canceled due to COVID-19.
“The Stephenson County Fair was canceled for 2020, however, we are hard at work planning and getting ready for the 2021 Fair,” the board of directors said on the fair’s website.
The fair is scheduled for July 27-31, 2021 at the fairgrounds in Freeport, Illinois.
A variety of music, children’s activities, pie-eating contests, other activities and a beer tent have been part of previous year’s fairs, the website reported.
The pandemic caused county residents and visitors to miss out on popular grandstand events such as truck and tractor pulls, lawnmower races, tough truck challenges and demo derby.
Other events have included the 4-H Parade of Excellence, mutton busting, chicken and calf scrambles.
The Stephenson County Fair Pageant is anticipated to be part of the 2021 fair, with Queen contestants from age 16 to 21, Junior Miss from 11-15 years old and Little Miss contestants from 6 to 10-years-old.
