Applicants are Carroll County State’s Attorney Scott Brinkmeier, Assistant State’s Attorney Aaron Kaney, Public Defender David Brown, former state’s attorney candidate Michelle Buckwalter-Shurman, and other applicants Anthony Coon, Anthony Peska, Ronald Hennings and Byron Sloan.

The eight are seeking to fill the vacancy created by the election of former Associate Judge Jerry Kane to be Carroll County resident circuit judge during November's General Election, succeeding now retired Judge Val Gunnarsson.

Application deadline was Dec. 21.

The 15th Judicial Circuit covers Carroll, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle and Stephenson counties.

Anyone who would like to comments about the applications may do so in writing to Hon. Robert T. Hanson, Chief Judge, 106 S. 5th St., Suite 306A, Oregon, IL 61061; or email to toms@15thjudicialcircuit.com

In a completely unrelated story published Dec. 16, My Carroll County News published a masked grip-and-grin photo of Savanna Mayor Chris Lain presenting a check to West Carroll Primary School Principal Tracy Rein taken on Dec. 10. The check was reimbursement for sidewalk replacement at West Carroll Primary School on Wacker Road in Savanna.

Also in the photo were Superintendent Julie Katzenberger and West Carroll School Board President John McIntyre.

"The safety of the kids in our community is a shared priority and we were so happy to partner with the schools on this project," Lain said in the My Carroll County News report.
