Sen. Neil Anderson was recently assigned to the state’s 9-1-1 Advisory Board to help oversee emergency call systems. The addition is effective immediately.
“Public safety is extremely important to me, which is why I became a firefighter and paramedic at the Moline Fire Department,” Anderson wrote in a Facebook post. “I hope my experience and knowledge from these experiences will ultimately help and improve the state’s emergency response system."
The appointment was made by Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) after considering Anderson’s expertise with the board after spending more than 10 years as a Quad Cities firefighter.
The 9-1-1 Advisory Board is primarily responsible for studying ways to improve the Illinois State Police in a uniform manner statewide. The suggestions for improvements are then made to the governor and General Assembly.
The next advisory board meeting, consisting of 11 voting members selected by the director of the State Police Department, is set to be held virtually on April 12. Anderson serves as one of the four non-voting General Assembly members. His term will run through March 2024.
