BYRON FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT: Free Oak Tree Seedlings!

Oaktree

Byron Forest Preserve District issued the following announcement on Apr. 10.

On Tuesday, April 13, the Byron Forest Preserve District along with the Living Lands and Waters Million Tree Project is distributing free oak tree seedlings starting at 8 AM at the Jarrett Prairie Center, located at 7993 North River Road in Byron.

There will be a total of 750 bur oak, red oak and swamp white oak tree seedlings for distribution on a first come first serve basis. Local Ogle County residents can take up to 10 seedlings for each household to plant on their property while supplies last. The seedlings can be found at the Jarrett Prairie Center front drive.

The Million Trees Project was initiated in 2007 to help further the Living Lands and Waters mission to protect, preserve and restore the natural environment of our nation’s major rivers and their watersheds. Their mission is to not only clean up the riverways but to also enhance the watershed by planting native trees and removing invasive plants.

For more information call the Byron Forest Preserve District at 815 234-8535 extension 200.
