City of Amboy City Council Met June 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Pro Tem Frank Stenzel called the Regular meeting of the Amboy City Council to order and the council and audience stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL: 

WARD 1:  Jake Leffelman

WARD 2:  Brandon Klein-Absent 

Bill Bontz

WARD 3:  Frank Stenzel

Dave Shaw 

MINUTE’S APPROVED-The minutes from the regular city council meeting were presented. Motion to approve the minutes by Aldermen Shaw and Bontz. Carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT APPROVED- City Treasurer Nancy Neal submitted the financial report. Making a motion to approve the reports as presented was made and seconded by Aldermen Leffelman and Bontz. Carried.

PAYMENT OF BILLS APPROVED- A list of outstanding bills, involving city accounts as prepared by the city clerk’s office was submitted. Making a motion to approve the bills as presented was made by Aldermen Bontz and Shaw. Carried. 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

COMMUNITY BUILDING-Alderman Stenzel-Booking a few more events.  

DEPOT MUSEUM-Alderman Shaw reported the Depot is having the root beer stand redone and Bill Burke has volunteered to do the repairs. Depot Meeting will be June 22nd at the Depot Museum. 

PARK-Alderman Bontz –No Updates. 

LIBRARY-Alderman Leffelman updated the summer reading program and the changes made to the program for in person and online learning. Follow Facebook for more updates. 

COMMITTEE MEETING-See minutes. 

MAINT/STREET DEPT-Alderman Bontz reported the state is almost done with the sidewalk project on the highway. 

WATER/SEWER DEPT-Alderman Shaw/Leffelman –No Updates. 

CONCERNS FROM THE AUDIENCE-Dennis Flush wanted to discuss a problem with his neighbors and their property. The neighbors on N. Jefferson Ave never clean their yard and have a lot of junk, garbage and weeds that they never remove. Dennis brought pictures of the neighbor’s property. Officer Hart reviewed the next steps in the process to get the cleanup done. 

NEW BUSINESS

Discuss City Property Purchase- Jared Zellhoffer- No Updates this month. Appraisal has been done but needs reviewed. 

 Approve Depot Commission to Invest Funds-Starved Rock Community Foundation-Motion to Approve Depot Commission to Invest Funds-Starved Rock Community Foundation made by Aldermen Shaw and Bontz. All Approved. 

Discuss /Approve City to Bid Repair Work-Depot Museum-Waiting to hear back from one contractor about a bid. 

Discuss/ Approve Police Dept. Violations Property Owners List- Officer Hart reviewed the list of properties that will be in violation after the letter date. Alderman Leffelman asked how the city would proceed and what needs to be done for the city attorney. Alderman thanked Officer Hart for all her hard work on so many properties. 

NEW BUSINESS

Approve 2021-2022 Mayors Appointments-Motion to Approve 2021-2022 Mayors Appointments made by Aldermen Shaw and Leffelman. All Approved. 

Appoint Greg Noble Ward 1 Alderman-Motion to Appoint Greg Noble Ward 1 Alderman made by Aldermen Bontz and Leffelman. All Approved. 

Approve Bid-Salt Shed-Greenfield Contractors $39,632.40 (City Maintenance Shop) Motion to Approve Greenfield Contractors Bid $39,632.40 made by Aldermen Bontz and Stenzel. All Approved. 

Approve Fireworks Donation-July 3rd Event-$3,000.00-Motion to Approve Fireworks Donation made by Aldermen Shaw and Noble. All Approved. 

Approve Resignation Donna Unrath-Library Board-Motion to Approve Resignation Donna Unrath made by Aldermen Shaw and Bontz. All Approved. 

Approve Appointment Tony McCoy-Library Board-Motion to Approve Appointment Tony McCoy Library Board made by Aldermen Stenzel and Bontz. All Approved. 

Building Inspectors Report-2 Roof, 1 Deck, 2 siding and 1 porch and 3 fence permits. Several questions on different projects in town. 

Attorney Legal Update-No Updates. 

COUNCIL CONCERNS

Alderman Shaw-Welcomed Greg Noble to the city council. Thank you to Officer Hart for all her work. 

Alderman Noble-Nothing. 

Alderman Leffelman-Welcomes Greg Noble as the new alderman. 

Alderman Bontz-Wishing everyone a safe 4th of July. 

Alderman Stenzel-Everyone stay safe with the upcoming holiday. 

With no further business to come before the council the meeting adjourned.
