Illinois state Sen. Win Stoller accuses Democrats of partisan motivations for pushing their proposed judicial subcircuit maps after the House voted 66-34 to send House Bill 3138 to Gov. J.B. Pritzker's desk.
“The majority party has once again used a sham redistricting process in order to rush through new maps that will help secure their power,” Stoller recently posted on Facebook. “Unfortunately, this time Democrats chose to corrupt our judicial system with their political games.”
With the change being touted as necessary to reflect the shifts in populations and ensure diversity, the Senate and House Redistricting Committees recently released a proposed map of new Cook County judicial subcircuit boundaries.
The current plan passed both the Senate and House on Jan. 5. There was no Republican support, The State Journal-Register reported.
“Our state’s judicial branch is meant to be an impartial and independent system above the typical partisanship that has become all too common in Springfield,” Stoller said. “Yet on the very first day of our 2022 spring session, Democrat lawmakers unnecessarily passed new sub circuit boundaries in the name of partisan gains.”
