State Sen. Brian W. Stewart warned residents of the Freeport area and those traveling through about an upcoming bridge repair project in the area.
The work will be on U.S. 20 Freeport Bypass bridge at Jane Addams Trail Bridge in Stephenson County, the senator said on Facebook. The bridge crosses the Jane Addams Trail about 2.5 miles east of Ayp Road, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Weather permitting, the work was scheduled to begin Monday and could be completed Friday, the post said.
"Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area," the Illinois Department of Transportation said in a news release. "To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment."
Construction details can be found on IDOT’s traveler information map on gettingaroundillinois.com, the agency said.
The Jane Addams Trail Bridge was built in 1888 and measures 175 feet, according to its website.
