In a Thursday Facebook post, state Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) shared a link to a WGEM report announcing that he has been endorsed by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce in his run to be the next state treasurer.
Demmer confirmed in January that he would challenge incumbent treasurer Michael Frerichs.
“All Illinoisans know that we were better when both parties had a seat at the table and the Chamber would be thrilled if it were Tom Demmer occupying that seat,” Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President Clark Kaericher said in a Thursday press conference, quoted in Demmer's Facebook post.
"Chamber leaders made the announcement inside the Mel-O-Cream donut factory in Springfield," the WGEM report said. "They believe that Demmer will fight for pro-business and pro-job policies as a constitutional officer."
Demmer was voted in to the Illinois House of Representatives in 2012 and began serving in January of 2013, the Illinois General Assembly website said. He is the Deputy House Republican Leader and serves on the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR). He is also the director of Strategic Planning at KSB Hospital and formerly a member of the Lee County Board.
