Q3 2022 Recap: 2 parolees from Stephenson County convicted of sex crimes set for release

There were two offenders convicted of sex crimes living in Stephenson County released on parole during the third quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the NW Illinois News.

The data shows both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes was 48. The younger parolee was a 43-year-old man sentenced in 2003, and the oldest was a 53-year-old man sentenced in 2006.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Thomas Herren. He was convicted in 2003 when he was 23 years old. He is now 43.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of sex crimes were paroled during the third quarter of 2022 in each Illinois county.
