City of Rock Falls Building Code Committee met May 3.

Call to Order 

Meeting was called to order at 5:20 p.m. by Chairman Snow 

Audience Request 

None 

Approve Minutes 

Committee reviewed minutes from April 5, 2023 regular Building Committee meeting. A motion was made by Alderman Wangelin to approve the minutes of the April 5, 2023 meeting, second by Member King, motion carried. 

Building Inspector 

A. Committee reviewed Code Enforcement citations list 

B. No building code update. 

New Business 

A. Rock Falls/Sterling Administrative Hearings - Inspector Searing updated the committee on the current status of the Administrative Judge's contract and that Sterling has not signed off on the Judge's increase. Committee discussed and agreed that Sterling should not participate in the May administrative hearings if they have not signed the increase by that date.

A. 1209 West 16th Street - No action? 

B. 800 W 2nd Street - 6/12/23 Court Date 

C. 402 3rd Avenue - 6/12/23 Court Date 

D. 406 E 3rd Street - Taxes purchased by owner - After lengthy discussion, a motion was made by Chairman Snow to offer the current owner $750 for both lots, second by Member King, all members voted aye. 

E. 420 Haskell Avenue - Waiting for attorney 

F. 404 6th Avenue - 6/8/23 Court Date 

G. 1116 1st Avenue - 6/12/23 Court Date 

H. 202 E 4th Street - 6/8/23 Court Date 

I. 1710 13th Avenue - 6/8/23 Court Date 

J. 1607 4th Avenue -Draft Complaint/Demand Letter 

K. 1210 8th Avenue - Draft Complaint/Demand Letter 

L 213 1st Avenue - Abandonment will be pursued 

Committee discussed the delay in the court proceedings and that the delay may cause the City to lose grant funding due to the fact that the grant ends in September and asked that a letter be drafted to City Attorney Cole stating the displeasure with the delay. 

A motion was made by Chairman Snow to allow the City Administrator & Building Inspector to proceed with whatever actions are necessary in order to use grant funding available for rehabilitation or demolition, second by Alderman Wangelin, all members voted aye. 

Committee member items

Committee member Mayor Kleckler asked that prohibitive measures be looked at for the pigeon situation in the downtown.

Committee adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
