National Farmer's Day was celebrated on October 12, 2023, as a way to honor the hardworking men and women who play a vital role in feeding and fueling our world. The significance of this day cannot be overstated, as it allows us to acknowledge the immense contributions made by farmers in Illinois and across the nation.

The Illinois Farm Bureau provides us with some remarkable statistics that highlight the importance of agriculture in our state. With over 482,000 jobs supported by agriculture and related industries, it is evident that farming has a significant impact on our economy. Furthermore, an impressive 97% of the 72,200 farms in Illinois are family-owned, demonstrating the strong tradition of farming passed down through generations.

Illinois has achieved remarkable success in various agricultural sectors. It proudly holds the top position in soybean production, ranking second in corn production, and fourth in pork production. These achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our farmers, who constantly strive for excellence in their craft.

Moreover, Illinois excels in converting its abundant crops and livestock into food and industrial products. With 2,640 food manufacturing companies, the state is at the forefront of the industry. In fact, Illinois leads the nation with an impressive $180 billion in processed food sales. This remarkable feat highlights the state's commitment to innovation and the ability to transform agricultural resources into valuable commodities.

In light of these achievements, Representative McCombie took the opportunity to express her gratitude to the farmers of Northwest Illinois, saying, "Thank you to all our farmers here in Northwest Illinois for your dedication to your families, land, and communities and for making our world a better place." Her words encapsulate the sentiment felt by many towards these hardworking individuals who tirelessly toil to provide for their families and contribute to the overall well-being of their communities.

On National Farmer's Day, it is crucial to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions made by farmers. Their commitment to their families, land, and communities is exemplary and deserves our utmost respect and support. As we celebrate this day, let us take a moment to express our gratitude to the farmers who make our world a better place through their unwavering dedication and hard work. Happy Farmers Day!
