The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) District 2 is currently accepting applications for seasonal positions to assist with snow and ice removal in several counties. These positions include Snow Removal Operators and Winter Salaried Highway Maintainers. The application deadline is Wednesday, October 18.

These seasonal workers will play a vital role in maintaining over 45,000 lane miles throughout the state during the winter months. They will be responsible for responding promptly to changing weather conditions and ensuring the safe removal of snow and ice. The job requires the ability to work in emergency situations, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The starting salary for these positions is $4,850 per month.

To be eligible for these roles, applicants must possess a valid commercial driver's license and have an email address. They will also need to undergo a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical and vision test, as well as drug and alcohol screening. It is worth noting that veterans are encouraged to apply, as a new law provides for veterans' preference for these seasonal positions.

The selection process for these positions will be based on availability, job-related experience, and qualifications. Interested individuals can find more information, including available positions and the application process for specific districts, by visiting the IDOT website.

If you have any questions about these job opportunities, you can contact the IDOT District 2 office at 815-284-5404.

For those who want to learn more about the snowbird program, IDOT has created a short, animated video that can be found on their YouTube channel.

With winter approaching, the IDOT is seeking dedicated individuals to join their team and ensure that Illinois roadways remain safe and navigable during the colder months. If you meet the qualifications and are ready to take on the challenge of winter weather, submit your application before the October 18 deadline.
