The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that the next Electric Vehicle (EV) Rebate Program funding round will open on November 1, 2023. Running until January 31, 2024, this funding round aims to incentivize Illinois residents to purchase all-electric passenger vehicles or motorcycles from licensed dealers in the state.

Under this program, residents who purchase a new or used all-electric passenger vehicle will be eligible for a rebate of $4,000, while those purchasing an all-electric motorcycle will be eligible for a rebate of $1,500. Priority in the disbursement of rebates will be given to applicants who certify as low income.

To provide potential applicants with more information, the Illinois EPA has made details about the rebates available on its Electric Vehicle Rebate website ahead of the opening of the next funding round. It is important to note that applications submitted or postmarked before November 1, 2023, will not be accepted or reviewed.

The funding allocated for this round is limited, with a total appropriation of $12 million for FY24. It is anticipated that the funding will be exhausted quickly, potentially within 4-6 weeks. Therefore, interested purchasers are encouraged to apply as early as possible during the rebate cycle window to increase their chances of receiving the rebate.

Applicants are advised to thoroughly review their applications before submission. If any application components are missing, the time it takes for the Illinois EPA to review the application, reach out to the applicant, and have a new application submitted may result in the funding already being depleted.

It is crucial for applicants to apply during the rebate cycle window and within 90 days of their vehicle purchase to be eligible for the rebate.

In light of this announcement, Illinois residents who are considering purchasing an electric vehicle or motorcycle are urged to take advantage of this rebate opportunity. As stated by the Illinois EPA, "This is a first come, first serve program based on application postmark – we encourage interested purchasers to apply as early as possible during the rebate cycle window."

With the limited funding available and the potential for a quick depletion, it is important for eligible individuals to act promptly to secure their rebate.
