City of Galena Historic Preservation Commission met Sept. 7.

23HPC-067- CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Craig Brown called the meeting of the Galena Historic Preservation Commission to order at 6:30 PM on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
23HPC-068- ROLL CALL
Upon roll call, the following members were present: Judy Jackson, Matt Carroll, Jack Dennerlien, Craig Brown, and Chuck Horton
Absent: Craig Albaugh, Jeremey White
23HPC-069 – ESTABLISHMENT OF QUORUM
A quorum was declared.
23HPC-070 - PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
23HPC-071 – APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF JULY 6, 2023
Motion: Carroll moved, seconded by Dennerlein to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission of August 3,2023.
Discussion: None.

NEW BUSINESS
23HPC-072 – DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON REQUEST BY THE OWNER OF 348
GEAR ST TO CONSTRUCT THE FRONT PORCH TO THE NEW PROPOSED DESIGN REMOVINGTHE EXISTING BRICK COLUMNS.
Applicant: Clint Ivy, homeowner, stated that the wall and columns were constructed this way due to a miscommunication between him and his contractor. A new contractor has been hired for the completion of the project.
Ivy stated the opposite side of the street is 14” higher, therefore the wall is to help mitigate water away from entering the house.
The board states no pictures can be found of the original home on this property or of any brick pillars.
The board recommends keeping existing walls, removing brick pillars, and rebuilding them to a 6x6 pillar made of appropriate synthetic or natural materials. It was agreed that this is a fair compromise.
Galena foundation approves of keeping the wall and removing the brick pillars as well.
Motion: Horton moved, seconded Carroll, to approve keeping existing walls, the removal of the brick pillars, and construction of 6x6 pillars.

Nays: None
Absent: Albaugh, White
The motion carried.
23HPC-072 – DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON REQUEST BY STATELINE SOLAR AND THE OWNER OF 813 HILL ST TO CONSTRUCT INSTALL A ROOF MOUNTED SOLAR ARRAY.
Item was withdrawn.
