State Senator Andrew S. Chesney | Illinois General Assembly
Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) will be hosting a Pet Rescue Fair in partnership with the Friends Forever Humane Society in Freeport on December 2. The event aims to encourage pet adoption and provide an opportunity for visitors to interact with the animals.
According to Senator Chesney, local animal shelters are the perfect place to find a pet. He believes that rescued animals make wonderful companions and are grateful to be adopted. In his own words, Chesney stated, "Rescued pets are so grateful when they are adopted. They make wonderful companions."
The Pet Rescue Fair will take place at the Friends Forever Humane Society located at 966 W. Rudy Road, Freeport. The event will run from 12:00 noon until 3:00 PM. During the fair, half-price adoptions for cats will be available, allowing more families to bring home a new furry friend.
Senator Chesney has been a strong advocate for the proper treatment of animals. In 2021, he sponsored Illinois' original puppy mill ban law (House Bill 1711). This year, he has continued his efforts by sponsoring two additional bills that focus on the ethical treatment of animals. Senate Bill 1882 prohibits testing facilities from engaging in toxicological experiments involving dogs and cats. Senate Bill 1230 closes a loophole in the puppy mill ban law to prevent the sale of puppies from unethical sources at pet stores.
Expressing his hopes for the event, Senator Chesney said, "I hope to see a large turnout for this event, and that many pets from the Humane Society find a forever home."
