Senator Andrew Chesney of Illinois had a busy week, with various initiatives and updates to share with the public.

Firstly, Senator Chesney announced that he will be hosting a Pet Rescue Fair in partnership with the Friends Forever Humane Society. The event, which will take place on December 2nd, will allow visitors to interact with pets available for adoption and enjoy half-price adoptions for cats. Senator Chesney, a strong advocate for the proper treatment of animals, highlighted his sponsorship of Illinois' original puppy mill ban law in 2021 and two additional bills focused on the ethical treatment of animals. He encouraged the community to join him at the fair, which will be held at the Humane Society in Freeport.

In addition to his efforts in animal welfare, Senator Chesney also shared information about the newly announced Illinois B2B NewBiz grant program. This program aims to provide financial relief to businesses that started during the COVID-19 pandemic in industries that were most impacted by it. Eligible businesses can apply for grants of up to $30,000 until January 11, 2024. Senator Chesney urged business owners to visit the grant portal at b2bnewbiz.com to learn more and apply.

Furthermore, Senator Chesney highlighted a new form introduced by the Illinois State Police (ISP) to report suspected public corruption. The ISP's Special Investigations Unit created the form to streamline the reporting process and ensure allegations of wrongdoing by public officials are properly addressed. Senator Chesney encouraged individuals who have witnessed public officials behaving badly to use the online form available at isp.illinois.gov.

Lastly, Senator Chesney addressed concerns about drought conditions in Illinois. As farmers wrap up the harvest season, there are growing worries about next year's agricultural prospects. Data from the United States Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service shows that soil moisture levels in Illinois are lower than in previous years, with just 53 percent of topsoil rated as having adequate or surplus moisture. The U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that a majority of the state is currently experiencing abnormally dry to severe drought conditions. While the NOAA's seasonal outlook suggests that winter temperatures in Illinois may be warmer than normal, there is a potential for drier than normal conditions in the Northeastern part of the state.

Senator Andrew Chesney's dedication to animal welfare, support for businesses affected by the pandemic, efforts to combat public corruption, and attention to the challenges faced by Illinois farmers demonstrate his commitment to serving the community and addressing critical issues in the state.
