State Senator Andrew Chesney of Freeport surprised the Scales Mound High School Trap Team with a $500 scholarship on December 5. The scholarship, made available by the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, aims to support programs that promote hunting, fishing, trapping, and wildlife management.

"Trap shooting requires a great deal of skill and practice, and I was pleased to be able to present a check for $500 that will help with the purchase of ammunition and jerseys for the Trap Team at Scales Mound High School," said Senator Chesney.

The Illinois Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus is the largest and one of the oldest caucuses in the General Assembly, with membership from both the Senate and the House. Illinois is home to approximately 500,000 recreational shooters, making trap shooting a popular sport for sportsmen and women of all ages.

Head Coach Jeremy Williams expressed gratitude for Senator Chesney's support, stating, "We want to thank Senator Chesney for his generous financial support of our Trap Team. Trap shooting helps develop accuracy and the ability to follow a fast-moving target, so the Senator’s financial support will go far in helping students improve skills they will be able to use their whole lives."

The Scales Mound Hornets Trap Team competes annually in competitions at the local, regional, and state level. The team is comprised of dedicated individuals who work hard to improve their skills and represent their school with pride.
