Li Arellano, the Republican candidate for the 37th Senate District, is set to advance to the November general election.

"Aurellano: Thanks to all of you: Victory," said Arellano, Republican candidate for Senate District 37, according to Facebook. "I'm am honored and humbled at the support and trust placed in me tonight, and so very thankful to the dedicated campaign team and volunteers that made this victory possible. I have come from the people, to serve the people! I look forward to November and to serving you as your State Senator in the 37th Distict."

According to his campaign website, Arellano is a former mayor of Dixon, a veteran and a current member of the Army Reserves. He serves as a squad leader in the 317th Engineer Company (ECC). In addition to his political and military roles, he has been a small business owner. He is married to Jamie and they have four children.

In the primary election, Arellano faced two challengers. According to Ballotpedia, he secured 51.4% of the votes, totaling 8,036 votes. His opponents Tim Yager and Chris Bishop received 31.9% (4,993 votes) and 16.7% (2,617 votes) respectively. No democrat is running for this seat.

Shaw Local reported that current 37th District Sen. Win Stoller endorsed Arellano in February after deciding against seeking a third term in the state senate. The outlet highlighted that Arellano received more than half of the vote in three of the district’s counties: Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside. Specifically, he garnered 55.16% of the vote in Lee County; 52.64% in Whiteside County; and 52.2% in Ogle County.

In a March 20 Facebook post sharing Shaw Local's article on his endorsement by Sen.Stoller, Arellano stated that he was "on military duty until next week," but would resume his campaign across the district upon his return.

Arellano's LinkedIn page reveals that he owns two Jimmy Johns franchises along with a frozen yogurt shop named Frosted Spoon and a small commercial property leasing company. It also mentions his three-year tenure as general manager at a Jimmy Johns location in Ann Arbor, Michigan from April 2004 to April 2007.
