Northwest Illinois State Representative, Tony McCombie, is urging quick action as the spring session at the State Capitol enters its final four weeks. In a recent column, McCombie highlighted key priorities and legislative efforts aimed at benefiting Illinois residents.

Addressing the issue of the Estate Tax, McCombie emphasized the need to reduce the tax burden on family farmers and small businesses. She stated, "One issue we need to resolve is the burdensome Estate Tax, frequently referred to as the 'death tax.'" McCombie has introduced legislation to lessen the impact of the Estate Tax on inherited farms and small businesses, with the ultimate goal of eliminating the tax altogether.

Furthermore, McCombie stressed the importance of ensuring tax revenue is directed towards its intended purpose. She noted the passage of the Illinois Forestry Fix (House Bill 1855) by the House of Representatives, which aims to allocate timber tax funds to support forest development programs crucial for timber growers in Illinois.

In a move to enhance outdoor recreational opportunities, McCombie has proposed the Freedom to Ride Act (House Bill 5436), which would permit Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) to operate on all roadways. She underlined the significance of enabling families to enjoy outdoor activities and utilize public roads funded by taxpayers.

Another pressing issue for McCombie is the timely issuance of professional licenses to Illinois residents. She expressed concern over delays and inefficiencies at the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), impacting individuals' livelihoods. McCombie and her colleagues have introduced a package of bills, including the License Convenience Act (House Bill 4855), to streamline licensing processes and improve access to electronic payments for licenses and fees.

With four weeks remaining in the session calendar, McCombie is dedicated to advancing these legislative initiatives for the benefit of Illinois citizens. She encourages constituents to stay informed and engaged, offering avenues for feedback and communication through her office.
