On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie discussed the newly signed FY25 state budget, expressing concerns about its impact on taxpayers. “It’s another bloated budget,” McCombie stated. “Every year I say the same thing. This is the biggest budget we’ve ever passed in Illinois—$53.1 billion this year, that has close to a billion dollars in tax increases.”

McCombie highlighted that the tax hikes included in the budget will place businesses and families in challenging positions. When the budget initially passed in the early morning hours of May 29, McCombie described it as “a negligent political document that comes at a massive price to Illinois families.”

According to McCombie, significant portions of the budget are allocated to $625 million in "political projects," additional taxpayer-funded benefits for noncitizens, and politician pay raises. He argued that these expenditures come at the expense of the state's most vulnerable residents.
