Illinois State House District 89 candidate Tony McCombie expressed her concern for the three Ogle County Sheriff's Deputies injured in a shooting in Dixon. "Praying for the three Ogle County Sheriff's Deputies who were injured in a shooting in Dixon yesterday," she stated on June 13 via Facebook.

"Praying for the three Ogle County Sheriff's Deputies who were injured in a shooting in Dixon yesterday," said Tony M. Mccombie, according to Facebook. "Please keep these law enforcement officers and their families in your thoughts as they recover."

In her Facebook post, McCombie shared a link to a Fox News report on the incident. According to Fox News, "a woman told 911 dispatchers her son was having ‘suicidal and homicidal ideations.’" An Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived at the home at 10:20 a.m. The incident occurred in the Lost Lake gated community.

Fox News reported that after the suspect failed to respond to more than 50 calls from authorities over an hour-long period, police entered the home and discovered Jonathon Gounaris inside.

On June 12, the Ogle County Sheriff's Office provided further details on Facebook. They stated that when they breached the home, Gounaris opened fire, prompting officers to return fire. Gounaris was injured during the exchange. One ERT member was struck in his armor, another was shot in the upper arm, and a third was struck in the face. Two members of the ERT were transported to KSB Hospital, treated, and released. The third injured member was flown to OSF St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford and underwent surgery that evening. The suspect also underwent surgery at a local hospital.

The Illinois State Police will investigate this officer-involved shooting, with any charges being filed upon completion of their investigation by the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office. "I would like to personally thank all law enforcement for their response to this incident and express my sincere gratitude to the multiple fire agencies, hospital staff, MD-1 Physicians, Flight crews, and the general public for their overwhelming support during this very difficult time at the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office," wrote Ogle County Sheriff Brian E. VanVickle on Facebook.
