The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is currently open for applications. This program offers financial aid to income-qualified households, assisting with expenses related to natural gas, propane, electricity bills, and furnace maintenance. Applications are being accepted until August 15, 2025, or until available funds run out.

LIHEAP provides one-time payments directly to energy service providers on behalf of eligible recipients. The amount of assistance varies according to the specific needs of each family. Last year, more than 333,000 households benefited from LIHEAP, receiving an average of over $724 per household.

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie encourages residents in need of this assistance to visit helpillinoisfamilies.com or their local agency for more information and application support. A list of partner agencies across the state is available online. Families can also seek assistance by calling 1-833-711-0374, where help is offered in 30 languages.
