State Representative Bradley Fritts acknowledged National Farmer's Day in an October 12 Facebook post, stating, "I am proud to be one of the thousands of farmers across Illinois working to feed our nation."

"Happy National Farmer's Day," said Bradley J Fritts, according to Facebook. "I am proud to be one of the thousands of farmers across Illinois working to feed our nation. Thank you to all of my fellow farmers for your hard work and dedication!"

National Farmer’s Day is observed to "honor and thank all of the hardworking farmers and ranchers who plow, sow, grow, and harvest to feed our nation," according to the Farmer’s Almanac. The publication notes that October 12 is an appropriate day for this celebration as it coincides with the end of the harvest season. The Almanac suggests several ways individuals can support local farmers, including purchasing produce at farmer’s markets, visiting pick-your-own farms, and investing in a community-supported agriculture (CSA) farm share.

According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDA), Illinois is a leading producer of soybeans, corn, and swine. The state also raises cattle, wheat, oats, sorghum, hay, sheep, poultry, fruits and vegetables. Additionally, Illinois produces specialty crops such as horseradish, ostriches, fish, and Christmas trees.

Agriculture plays a significant role in Illinois' economy with more than $51.1 billion generated annually from marketing agricultural products. The state ranks fifth nationally in exporting agricultural products.

The Illinois Corn Growers Association reported in February that the 2022 Census of Agriculture recorded 71,123 farms across Illinois with an average size of 370 acres. This represents a two percent decline from the 2017 Census. The census also indicated that Illinois was ranked first for soybean acreage as well as horseradish and pumpkin production; second for corn acreage; third for total crop sales; and fourth in hog inventory.

Fritts serves as the State Representative for District 74 since January 2023. A lifelong resident of Illinois, he balances his legislative duties with work as a substitute teacher and farming with his family. He holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural and consumer economics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
