FOIA Request to City Of Rochelle Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.
We at NW Illinois News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Rochelle Finance Department seeking detailed records of sales tax collected from retailers in the city since January 1, 204.
Our request specifically seeks information about the amount of sales tax collected from retailers each month and how it compares with projected figures. We also asked for data on the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month, as well as the names of each retailer and their reported gross retail sales for each month.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with this, we have requested a fee waiver for this information as we are a media organization disseminating information to the public.
We await a response from the City Of Rochelle Finance Department and will continue our efforts in ensuring transparency and accountability in local government affairs.
