A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Savanna on October 28, 2024, by us at NW Illinois News. The request specifically sought details regarding all unpaid parking violations within the city.
In our pursuit of comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we asked for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid. The requested information includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due, violation date, and total due.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such public records is crucial. These records not only help us fulfill our professional responsibilities but also enable us to provide our readers with insights into local governance issues.
We have requested these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and preferably in an electronic format for ease of dissemination. Given our role in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also applied for a fee waiver as a media professional.
