FOIA Request to City of Sterling Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.
In our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NW Illinois News have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was sent to the City of Sterling on October 28, 2024.
Our request specifically asks for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid within the city's jurisdiction. We are seeking detailed information including the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when each violation occurred, and the total amount due.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes not only reporting news but also providing a clear picture of how local government entities operate.
We have requested these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination. Given our role as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also asked for a fee waiver as part of this request.
We will continue to keep you updated as we receive more information from the City of Sterling regarding this matter.
